Japandroids (JPNDRDS) is a two piece band from Vancouver, BC. This 'band' started in 2006 as a creative outlet for the post-teenage angst of Brian King and David Prowse. Originally intending to be a trio, the boys decided to forgo the logistical nightmare of having a 'lead singer' and do it themselves. As a consequence, Japandroids are 1 guitar, 1 set of drums, and 2 vocalizers. They call it garage rock. They don't care what you call it, as long as it's not minimal. Japandroids are maximal - a two piece band trying to sound like a five piece band.
Building on the buzz of 2008's Lullaby Death Jams and 2007's All Lies, Japandroids' debut full-length, Post-Nothing, was released in 2009 and immediately began garnering critical acclaim. Four months later, the record was named on numerous year-end lists -- earning best-of-2009 honors from Pitchfork, Spin, Stereogum, NME, Exclaim and many, many more.
Tired of being forced to pick a label for their music, Brian (guitar) and Dave (drums) decided that their sound was simply "post-nothing." The album's nine gems confirm this: running the gauntlet of rock 'n roll sub-genres to the point that the boys are ripping off too many different bands to sound like any other duo making music right now.
In 2010, finding it difficult to record a full album while in the midst of a heavy touring schedule behind Post-Nothing, Japandroids devised a 7" series as a way to give something back to its fans.
Recorded during the duo's brief period of time off between tours, each two-song 7" included an A-side of previously unreleased material written during the Post-Nothing sessions and a cover B-side.
2010 also saw the re-release of Japandroids' two pre-Post-Nothing EPs -- Lullaby Death Jams and All Lies -- compiled together as No Singles . The EPs have been out of print ever since the original pressings (500 copies each on CD-R) quickly sold out.
Gaining just as much positive press for its amazing live shows, Japandroids have already played more than 200 concerts across North America and Europe.
Supporting Japandroids gets you into heaven -- no questions asked.
