Pithcfork Music Festival means good times for sure, and this year was no exception! Japandroids were there to rock all festival goers with jams off their latest album, Celebration Rock, and rocked they did! Check out the band's performance of "Fires Highway" above, then head to Pitchfork.tv for more performances.
It's always wild times with the good ole droids. You never know what to expect! During this year's Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain, Pitchfork TV spent the entire day with Brian and Dave before they had to take the stage that night. Watch the guys staying "crazy forever" on a boat somewhere off the Spanish coastline in the mini documentary above.
If you missed Japandroids' performance of "Fire's Highway" on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last week, you can now stream it above! The guys also did an exclusive web performance of "The House That Heaven Built" w/ The Roots. Watch that HERE.
THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED! Japandroids' new album, Celebration Rock, is officially out today worldwide! The album is available on 180-gram white vinyl (see above), CD, and MP3. Both the LP and CD come with a 20-page photo booklet. Check it out in our online store HERE (or digitally on iTunes HERE).
Celebration Rock is Japandroids' 2nd full-length album and it hits just as hard (if not harder) than their critically acclaimed debut, Post-Nothing. Each song is instantly memorable, showing just how far this band has come since they were about to call it quits nearly 3 years ago. See for yourself by taking a listen to "The House That Heaven Built" below, or stream the whole album on Rdio or Spotify.
It's no surprise that nearly everyone loves Celebration Rock just as much as we do. The album has been getting praised from various music publications around the globe, and the reviews keep coming in! Pitchfork gave the album "Best New Music" (8.8) and had this to say: "Celebration Rock treats every day like the last day of school, raising a glass to the past, living in the moment and going into the future feeling fucking invincible."
The album has also received multiple accolades in other places like Rolling Stone (4/5), SPIN (9/10), NPR, BBC, and others. I think it's safe to say that if you haven't heard this album yet, you're missing out. Follow the links here/below to check everything out!Hide More
Japandroids' new album, Celebration Rock, is currently streaming in its entirety all this week on NPR's "First Listen." Check it out HERE. When describing the album, NPR says: "In 35 minutes and just eight songs, these guys kick and scream ("Let rip, but never let go!"), fill their choruses with "whoa-oh-ohs," and generally sing the praises of a loud, messy life. It's fitting that Celebration Rock both starts and finishes with the sound of fireworks — figuratively, they never actually stopped."
But NPR aren't the only ones who have praised Celebration Rock. Pitchfork gave the album a great review (Best New Music - 8.8), saying it "remains structurally minimal but incredibly dense, fashioning a bionic kind of rock music from the best parts without a moment that lacks crowd-pleasing purpose."
The album is currently out now in Canada, and will be released everywhere else next week (6/5). Follow the links below to order the album and to read the reviews. Hide More
During this past SXSW, Brian & Dave of Japandroids sat down with Ryan Dombal at Pitchfork for an in-depth interview about their upcoming album, Celebration Rock. The interview goes into detail on how the band writes songs, why they love touring so much, and what they were thinking about while recording the new album.
"Personally, I really like the concepts of good and evil, heaven and hell-- the extreme boundaries of how people can feel and how fast things can change. I like that language. I'm not talking about just some night you felt a certain way, I'm talking about the night you felt that way-- that one time." - Brian King
Japandroids' Brian King recently got a chance to chat with Anthem Magazine about their upcoming album, Celebration Rock + what's in store for Japandroids in the near future. Follow the link below to check it out.
Japandroids' vocalist/guitarist Brian King recently sat down with Matthew Perpetua of Rolling Stone to chat about their upcoming album, Celebration Rock (out June 5th). The two touch on tons of details - everything from the recording process of Celebration Rock, to the fact that the band almost broke up (not to mention Brian almost died) before their debut album, Post-Nothing, was even released. Check out the interview HERE.
Any NPR lovers out there? Be sure to check out this week's episode of All Songs Considered, as the new Japandroids song, "The House That Heaven Built," is one of the talked about tracks!
