We're incredibly excited to announce that the new Sonny & The Sunsets album, Antenna to the Afterworld, will be released June 11th! Available on CD, LP (purple vinyl), and cassette, the album is a whole new sound for the Sunsets...and it's amazing. Pre-orders are up RIGHT HERE.
The opening track, "Dark Corners," made its debut on Pitchfork earlier today here. Take a listen below:
The murder of a close friend of the band led Sonny Smith to think a lot about death and life after death. Shortly after, a visit to a psychic/medium brought Smith into contact with another friend who had died. This encounter with the afterworld inspired many of the lyrics on Antenna to the Afterworld. And what a strangely entertaining odyssey it turned out to be.
"I come from the planet of dogs / ... / And I walk on your streets / ... / and I can't wait to find / My little place in your weird world," Smith sings on opening track "Dark Corners," as the song's use of synthesizers lends the perfect sonic counterpart to the science fiction narrative.

Oh yes my friends...it's coming. The new Sonny & The Sunsets album, Antenna to the Afterworld, will be released June 11th! Check out a preview of the opening track, "Dark Corners," above. Stay tuned for more details!

Incredibly excited to finally be able to announce that the new Saturday Looks Good To Me album, One Kiss Ends It All, will be coming out 5/21/13 and is currently available for pre-order RIGHT HERE. If you're not falling over with excitement yet (like me), then check out the first single "Invisible Friend," which just debuted on PitchforkHERE.
One Kiss Ends It All is the first proper full-length album since 2007's Fill Up The Room, and Fred Thomas and co. are picking back up right where they left off. With more sophisticated arrangements and melodies more direct and engaging than anything the band has ever done, the album feels like re-telling the details of a dream minutes after waking. Something new colliding with something that shouldn't make sense in a beautifully strange collage. And always more details hidden in the corners.

In 2010, Sonny Smith (Sonny & The Sunsets) invited 100 artists to collaborate on an incredibly ambitious project. Pitchfork recently debuted the incredibly intricate new video for "Katachi," which features amazing stop-animation work by directors Kijek / Adamski. Watch it above!
"Shugo Tokumaru is one of those rare people who can pile instruments all over each other in a way that makes no sense on paper and then make it come off as the most natural thing in the world." - Pitchfork (7.6)
And don't forget, the album is streaming in its entirety over at Under the RadarHERE!

More about Generationals:
Since releasing their debut full-length Con Law in 2009, Generationals have consistently delivered pop hooks shone through a melancholic prism. This trend continued with 2010's Trust EP and again on 2011's full-length Actor-Caster.
Now, with Heza, the band (Ted Joyner & Grant Widmer) deliver all that you've come to love from them, only now the focus is on rhythms and textures, revealing a more patient band -- one willing to dig for deeper gems than in their previous work.
Recorded in phases at Jim Eno's Public Hifi in Austin, producer Daniel Black's Bent Black studio in D.C., and their hometown of New Orleans, these songs
show restraint, with hooks developing in the spaces between sounds.
We're incredibly excited to announce that we'll be releasing Vol. 1, 2, & 3 of Sonny Smith's 100 Records project on limited edition cassette and digital formats. Vol 3 will also be available on white vinyl (limited to 500). Each release will be available on 1/29/13 and are currently up for pre-order RIGHT HERE.
Take a listen to "If You Don't Make a Change (Don Adora'e)" from Vol. 3 below.
In 2010, during his residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, Calif., Sonny Smith (of Sonny & The Sunsets) took on the incredibly ambitious task of creating 100 fictitious bands and writing songs for each, an undertaking he dubbed the "100 Records Project."
Smith invented band names and song titles, then spent the next year recording singles for each of his 100 imaginary bands. Not stopping there, he also invited notable visual artists -- including Chris Johanson, Esther Pearl Watson and William Wiley -- to design album art for each.
That same year, the 100 Records Project was first shared with the public at San Francisco's Gallery 16. The art exhibit, which was highly praised by critics and fans alike, allowed visitors to play all 100 songs on a homemade jukebox and view original prints of the album covers.
Two collections featuring songs from the project, 100 Records: Vol. 1 and 100 Records: Vol. 2, have previously been released in extremely limited edition runs.Hide More

HAPPY RELEASE DAY! The new album from Stagnant Pools, Temporary Room, is officially out today! The album is available on CD, LP (white vinyl), and MP3 formats at your favorite local record shop, or directly through us RIGHT HERE. It's also up on iTunes HERE. Stream the entire thing below!
If you're unfamiliar with Stagnant Pools, the band consists of just two people - brothers Bryan and Douglass Enas. They make music which the Chicago Reader describes as "drone-heavy, slate-gray art-rock that should appeal to fans of Disappears, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth records from back when they were still actually scary."
Pitchfork also had great things to say about their first single, "Dead Sailor." "The band sounds ready to escape something here, as a bucking rhythm and Strokes-like melody peeks through a hovering coal-dust cloud of distorted guitar sustain and reverb."
To support the album's release, Stagnant Pools are hitting the road for the next two months, opening up for Bad Veins, School of Seven Bells, and Maximo Park. Be sure to check out their upcoming tour dates HERE and follow the band on Facebook & Twitter.Hide More

The album is available on CD (comes with a bonus track), 180-gram maroon LP (limited edition of 500 & includes bonus track), and digital formats. Both the CD and LP come with an instant MP3 download at checkout. Pick one up at your favorite local record store, or directly from us RIGHT HERE.
Dusted is the debut solo project of Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt. Wanting to explore a different sound, Borcherdt teamed up with producer/drummer Leon Taheny (Final Fantasy, Rituals) and locked themselves in a cold Nova Scotia cabin for the month of December to create Total Dust. The result is a lo-fi, haunting masterpiece that showcases an entire new side of Borcherdt. Take a listen to the entire album above.
The new Sonny & The Sunsets album, Longtime Companion, is officially out today on CD / LP / MP3 worldwide! Visit your favorite local record shop, or check out our online store, to get a copy. The album is also available on iTunes HERE.
Longtime Companion is the 3rd full-length album from San Francisco's Sonny & The Sunsets, and 1st with Polyvinyl! With Longtime Companion, the Sunset's mastermind, Sonny Smith, pulls from his country roots to create an incredibly personal album, full of love and heartbreak. With hints of Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Townes Van Zandt and a little Johnny Cash, Longtime Companion still remains a Sonny & The Sunsets album, it's just that there's a bit more twang this time around.
Check out the first single, "Pretend You Love Me," above. To get a taste of the entire album, head over to Under The Radar for their exclusive album stream.
In 2007, Josh Hodges (mastermind behind Starfucker), was asked by his friend to quit his job so he could record an album of cover songs. "It was actually my friend's idea," Hodges says. "He wanted to hear what some of these songs would sound like if I performed them. I thought it sounded like a fun idea."
What grew out of that proposition is Sexton Blake Plays The Hits. With covers ranging from Elton John to LL Cool J, ELO to Milli Vanilli, this album is a perfect snapshot in time that shows how Hodges would go on to approach his own songs under the Starfucker moniker. "It's a pretty funny selection of songs, some ridiculous and some legit," he explains, "I had a lot of fun making this record."
Previously only available digitally, Sexton Blake Plays The Hits is now available on 180-gram clear gold 2xLP (limited to 1,000 and comes with instant MP3 download) and will be in stores July 17th. This is the first time these songs have been made available on vinyl!
The album is available RIGHT NOW through our online store HERE.
Consequence of Sound has the upcoming Stagnant Pools album, Temporary Room, streaming in its entirety RIGHT HERE! There's also a great in-depth interview with both Bryan and Doug about how the album came to be, and how living in Bloomington, IN has shaped their sound.
Temporary Room comes out August 7th on CD / LP / MP3. It's available for pre-order RIGHT NOW.
If you've been wondering what the new Sonny & The Sunsets album sounds like, you're in luck! Longtime Companion (out next week 6/26) is streaming in its entirety on Under The Radar right now! Take a listen at the link below.
The new Dusted album, Total Dust, is streaming in its entirety over on Noisey, Vice's music site. This is the first place you'll be able to stream the album before its release on July 10, so take advantage of it! Follow the link below to check it out.
Dusted has a new track, "Pale Light", debuting on Consequence of Sound! Coming from the soon to be released, Total Dust, CoS described the song as "darker and more introspective, unwinding violin threads in cavernous spaces that echo Taheny’s work with Final Fantasy". If that peaks your interest (and we're guessing it did), then check out the soundcloud link above or go directly to their site through the link below.
THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED! Japandroids' new album, Celebration Rock, is officially out today worldwide! The album is available on 180-gram white vinyl (see above), CD, and MP3. Both the LP and CD come with a 20-page photo booklet. Check it out in our online store HERE (or digitally on iTunes HERE).
Celebration Rock is Japandroids' 2nd full-length album and it hits just as hard (if not harder) than their critically acclaimed debut, Post-Nothing. Each song is instantly memorable, showing just how far this band has come since they were about to call it quits nearly 3 years ago. See for yourself by taking a listen to "The House That Heaven Built" below, or stream the whole album on Rdio or Spotify.
It's no surprise that nearly everyone loves Celebration Rock just as much as we do. The album has been getting praised from various music publications around the globe, and the reviews keep coming in! Pitchfork gave the album "Best New Music" (8.8) and had this to say: "Celebration Rock treats every day like the last day of school, raising a glass to the past, living in the moment and going into the future feeling fucking invincible."
The album has also received multiple accolades in other places like Rolling Stone (4/5), SPIN (9/10), NPR, BBC, and others. I think it's safe to say that if you haven't heard this album yet, you're missing out. Follow the links here/below to check everything out!Hide More
Japandroids' new album, Celebration Rock, is currently streaming in its entirety all this week on NPR's "First Listen." Check it out HERE. When describing the album, NPR says: "In 35 minutes and just eight songs, these guys kick and scream ("Let rip, but never let go!"), fill their choruses with "whoa-oh-ohs," and generally sing the praises of a loud, messy life. It's fitting that Celebration Rock both starts and finishes with the sound of fireworks — figuratively, they never actually stopped."
But NPR aren't the only ones who have praised Celebration Rock. Pitchfork gave the album a great review (Best New Music - 8.8), saying it "remains structurally minimal but incredibly dense, fashioning a bionic kind of rock music from the best parts without a moment that lacks crowd-pleasing purpose."
The album is currently out now in Canada, and will be released everywhere else next week (6/5). Follow the links below to order the album and to read the reviews. Hide More
We're very pleased to announce that Bloomington, IN's Stagnant Pools have officially signed with Polyvinyl. Their upcoming album, Temporary Room, will be released August 7th on CD / LP (black or white vinyl) / digital formats. The album is currently available for pre-order RIGHT HERE.
Stagnant Pools are Bryan and Douglass Enas, two brothers (21 and 22) from Bloomington, IN. With just one guitar and a drum kit, they make music which the Chicago Reader describes as "drone-heavy, slate-gray art-rock that should appeal to fans of Disappears, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth records from back when they were still actually scary."
See for yourself by streaming the first single, "Dead Sailor," above. Pitchfork also posted the track HERE, saying "the band sounds ready to escape something here, as a bucking rhythm and Strokes-like melody peeks through a hovering coal-dust cloud of distorted guitar sustain and reverb."
Birthmark's new album, Antibodies, is officially out today on CD / LP / MP3 formats worldwide! The album is available directly through our online store, or at your favorite local record shop (LPs are limited to just 1000 on 180-gram white vinyl). The album is also available on iTunes right HERE.
Stream the first single "Stuck" below.
Birthmark is the solo project of Nate Kinsella, a name you might recognize from Chicago based bands Joan of Arc & Make Believe. With Antibodies, Kinsella's 3rd release under the Birthmark moniker, musical boundaries continue to be pushed. From vibraphones to violins, cellos to clarinets, each instrument on the album was played either by Kinsella or a session musician. Even the stunning backwards string section on "Shake Hands" was painstakingly composed and performed with an actual string quartet.
Antibodies has already been getting praised from various music publications worldwide. The 405 calls Antibodies "one of the best things Kinsella has ever done," while Under the Radar gets directly to the point in stating, "Birthmark does it right." Antibodies also landed in ALARM'S "Best Albums of the Week" feature.

Japandroids' vocalist/guitarist Brian King recently sat down with Matthew Perpetua of Rolling Stone to chat about their upcoming album, Celebration Rock (out June 5th). The two touch on tons of details - everything from the recording process of Celebration Rock, to the fact that the band almost broke up (not to mention Brian almost died) before their debut album, Post-Nothing, was even released. Check out the interview HERE.
We couldn't be more excited to announce that Dusted have officially joined the Polyvinyl family and will be releasing their debut album, Total Dust, on July 10th in conjunction w/ Canadian label Hand Drawn Dracula. The album is available for pre-order HERE and comes on 180-gram black or maroon LP & CD (includes a bonus track). The maroon LPs are limited edition of 500 and we only have 200 in the PV store, so act quick if you want one!
Hailing from Toronto, ON, Dusted is the side project of Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt. After 6 years of constant Holy Fuck touring, Borcherdt teamed up with producer Leon Taheny (Final Fantasy, Rituals, Bruce Peninsula) and fleshed out the songs that would eventually appear on Total Dust. They decided to keep it as a two-piece (Borcherdt on guitar/vocals, Taheny on drums/samples) and Dusted was born.
Stream the first single "(Into the) Atmosphere" above + watch a teaser video. SPIN.com debuted the track, describing it as "a dewy lo-fi pop ramble, with sweetly multi-tracked vocals, cavernous layers of melancholy guitar strums, and galloping, off-kilter percussion."

We're very excited to announce that San Fancisco's Sonny & the Sunsets have joined the Polyvinyl family! The band's new album, Longtime Companion, will be released June 26th and is currently up for pre-order HERE (180-gram yellow vinyl / CD). All pre-orders receive an instant MP3 download for the entire album at checkout!
Longtime Companion is a country album centered around love & heartache, topics best suited for such a genre. Sonny Smith, the band's main songwriter, pours his soul into these songs, reflecting a break up with his girlfriend of 10 years. While Longtime Companion has hints of The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gene Clark, Townes Van Zandt and a little Johnny Cash, it still ultimately sounds like a Sonny & the Sunsets album through and through.
Check out the first single "Pretend You Love Me" above (also available on Soundcloud HERE).
One of the most asked questions we get here at Polyvinyl is this: WHEN'S THE NEW JAPANDROIDS ALBUM COMING OUT?
Details of the band's new album, Celebration Rock, have just been announced on Pitchfork's interview with guitarist/vocalist Brian King. Follow the link below for more details on the new album and to read up on Brian's influences.
Happy release day everyone! Xiu Xiu's amazing new album, Always, is officially out now! It's available right here through our online store (180-gram black vinyl, CD, MP3), or at your favorite local record shop. Our limited edition pink vinyl already sold out, but the white vinyl pictured above is available at all record shops where our stuff is sold, so you can still get your hands on some great colored wax.
Always has already received tons of positive feedback from the music world. NME calls it "positively swollen with meaning." Uncut describes the album as "beautiful...some will hail (Stewart) as their Morrissey," while SPIN.com pays homage to Stewart's honesty by stating "few songwriters are as brave as Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart."
Check out the first single "Hi" below, and be sure to visit the Xiu Xiu YouTube channel for 2 brand new videos.
More about Always
Two years after the band’s last album, Dear God, I Hate Myself, Xiu Xiu (the brainchild of acclaimed songwriter Jamie Stewart) makes its Polyvinyl full-length debut with Always. Produced by Deerhoof's Greg Saunier (who also contributes drums and vocals to the album) and mixed by John Congleton (Antony and the Johnsons, Marylin Manson, the Roots), Always is positively vibrant, transforming avant pop elements from an undertone into a bright black focal point while adding new influences such as choral music, kraut rock and animal field recordings.
Stewart’s fearless lyrics have given voice to life's most untouchable and taboo subjects (sexual objectification, abortion, incest, molestation) while his distinctively committed but hushed vocals crystallize and medicate their unsettling impact. This unflinching lyrical style is coupled with pure, singable melodies -- the kind of pairings that bring into stark relief how often life's worst moments are shouldered with a skewed, cheery grin. We're very excited to announce that the new Birthmark album, Antibodies, will be released May 15th (limited edition white vinyl, CD, and digital formats) and is currently available for pre-order now.
Birthmark is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Nate Kinsella. With Antibodies, Birthmark's 3rd album (and Polyvinyl debut), Kinsella pairs his amazing arrangement abilities with lyrical themes of acute self-criticism. The feeling of not being able to escape from one's true self is one of many prominent topics throughoutthe course of Antibodies.
Musically, the album soars with various types of instrumentation (vibraphone, violins, cellos, clarinets and more). Each instrument was played by either Kinsella or a session musician.
Check it out for yourself by visiting My Old Kentucky Blog, where they have the song "Stuck" available as a free download. Follow the links below to check out the track and to pre-order Antibodies.
Feel like getting a sneak peak at the Xiu Xiu album, Always? Well, you can do just that over on SPIN.com, as it's currently streaming in its entirety! Xiu Xiu will also be hitting the road with Dirty Beaches this summer to support Always. In addition to the tour, this Record Store Day will see a split 7" b/w the two bands, featuring Xiu Xiu's cover of Erasure's 1994 ballad "Always" along with Dirty Beaches' cover of "Tu Ne Dis Rien" by Francoise Hardy. Paralytic Stalks, the latest masterpiece from of Montreal, is officially out now! Available on various formats including limited edition 180 gram fuchsia 2xLP (see above), CD, cassette, and MP3, Paralytic Stalks is of Montreal's most personal album since 2007's Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?. The fuchsia vinyl is available exclusively through our online store and limited to just 1500 copies, but that's not to say your favorite local record shop won't have something special. These yellow 2xLPs will be there waiting for you!
To give the world a formal introduction on what Paralytic Stalks is all about, of Montreal will be performing the first single "Dour Percentage" this Wednesday (2/8) on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, so be sure to tune in!
If you can't wait that long, you can always head over to AOL Spinner and stream the whole album right now. Trust us, you won't be disappointed. Never before has an of Montreal album moved so fluidly from one song to the next - each track feeding off the last in what seems a singular album-long movement that never allows you to rip your ears away.
SPIN.com agrees, calling Paralytic Stalks "an impressive one, jumping from unplugged confessional to atonal weirdness and then back to sunny '60s-style psych-pop, all while still taking aim at fake idiots."
Time Out also shows their love for the album by simply calling it, "blindingly brilliant."
And if you've been wondering what of Montreal mastermind Kevin Barnes was thinking during Paralytic Stalks' recording process, you can find out by reading a few of these great interviews on The Line of Best Fit, Drowned in Sound, and SPIN.com, where he gives you a track-by-track breakdown of Paralytic Stalks. Consequence of Sound also has a great Spotify playlist up on their site that Kevin made featuring a bunch of his influences.

I wish I could create a national holiday. If I could, I'd name today DEERHOOF DAY, and make it a requirement that everyone listen to Deerhoof all day long. Unfortunately, I don't have the power to create such a holiday. Not yet that is...
But alas! I do have the power to post this blog entry, letting you know that Deerhoof's Reveille LP re-issue and their amazing new DeerBazan 7" are both out today.
The Reveille LP re-issue comes on beautiful 180-gram light blue vinyl and has been out of print for a long while now. This album is the first to feature current guitarist John Dieterich and also has a different song sequence that the orignal pressing. Pretty cool eh?
DeerBazan is the newest installment in the ongoing Deerhoof 7" series where other musicians contribute new vocals/lyrics to an existing Deerhoof track while including something of their own on side B. This time, David Bazan does just that with the song "No One Asked to Dance," from last year's Deerhoof vs. Evil. For the B-side, Bazan gave us a live version of the Headphones song "Gas and Matches." This one is limited to just 2000 copies and also comes on blue vinyl.
Follow the link below to check out both releases as well as a few package deals we put together for you! Hide More
Directed by Ewan Macleod, Loney Dear's newest video, "Loney blues," has a faceless skateboarder riding through urban streets. The scenes go perfectly with the slow orchestral swell Emil is known for creating, and Stereogum was nice enough to debut the video. Check it out above, or click the link below to see what Stereogum had to say!

Paralytic Stalks, the latest from of Montreal, is now officially available for pre-order! The album will be available on CD, 180-gram 2xLP (limited edition fuchsia, or black vinyl), Cassette, and MP3 formats on Feb 7th.
Always one to be exploring new musical directions, Kevin Barnes (of Montreal's main creative force) has once again showcased his versitle talent as a songwriter with Paralytic Stalks - an album that contains some of Barnes' most personal confessions since 2007's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
Paralytic Stalks may be some of Barnes' darkest material to date, touching on topics such as self-hatred, revenge, human existence, his relationship with wife Nina, and others that illustrate an emotionally raw character.
Musically, Paralytic Stalks is a whilrwind of modern classical, neo-prog, pseudo-country, and 60's pop. Recorded at Barnes' home studio in Athens, GA and mixed at Chase Park Transduction with the help of Drew Vandenburg (Deerhunter, Toro Y Moi), Paralytic Stalks shows hints of Barnes's extensive past repitoire, while intimately engaging listeners in a way like never before.

Polyvinyl is pleased to announce the fourth full length by Brooklyn-based shoegaze quartet Asobi Seksu, and the addition of Japanese pop-experimentalist Shugo Tokumaru to the Polyvinyl Family!
Asobi Seksu's highly anticipated fourth full-length, Fluorescence, out February 15, 2011 in the US, features the lead single "Trails"--catchy and chaotic to the core, paying homage to the pitch-perfect songwriting of the ‘60s. “Coming Up” sets the scene by plowing into beehive-like synth lines and warp speed washes of dream-pop that leave you wondering just what the hell is going on. The album features artwork from acclaimed designer Vaughan Oliver (Cocteau Twins, Pixies), and will be available on CD, LP (Gatefold Jacket, 180 gram pink vinyl limited edition of 1,500), and digital formats. Click the link below to receive a free download of "Trails."
Also set for release on February 15, 2011, is Port Entropy, the 4th album from critically-acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shugo Tokumaru, the newest addition to the Polyvinyl family. Throughout Port Entropy, Tokumaru's arrangements soar to new heights -- most prominently in the coda of standout track “Lahaha.” Conversely, the twinkling piano lullaby "Linne" showcases a quieter, more introspective side of Tokumaru's songwriting. Listen to "Lahaha" for free by clicking the link below.

On top of all of this, along with recording her sophmore album Epic (to be released Oct. 5th on Ba Da Bing), Sharon found time to record 2 exclusive songs for the I'm Giving Up On You 7". This one is limited to 500 copies on black vinyl + MP3. Get it while you can!
Deerhoof / Physical Forms - Hoofdriver
Another one we're SUPER excited for! This 7" spawned from the mind of Regan Farquhar, better known as Busdriver (LA-based MC who has released several albums on ANTI-). Side A of Hoofdriver features Farquhar singing over a Deerhoof instrumental track. Side B features Farquhar's latest project, Physical Forms, which features members of The Mae Shi. The day is here! We're very pleased to announce the release of Casiokids' new compilation, Topp stemning på lokal bar, available now on 2xCD / 2xLP / MP3.
If there's one release to take note of this year, it's Topp stemning på lokal bar. Norway's Casiokids (of Montreal tourmates and now labelmates) take the term "catchy" and multiply it by 1,000. Topp stemning på lokal bar is packed with flawless pop gems, sung in their native language of Norwegian. The band has already been getting attention far and wide from the likes of Flaunt, Stereogum, Self-Titled,FILTER, WIRED, and more. XLR8R also just premiered diskJokke's remix of "En Vill Hest" on their First Listen section. You can also stream the entire album over at AOL SPINNER right now. And on top of that, Pitchfork debuted the band's awesome video for "Finn Bikkjen!" directed by Greg Taylor. Whew...that's a lot of awesome stuff.
The 2xCD includes free sticker, button, and bonus remix CD of 8 orginal tracks. The 2xLP (purple 180 gram vinyl limited to 1,000) also comes with a free sticker, button, and bonus remix 12". The beautiful cover is a hand screen printed design by Nina Barnes/Geminitactics. This is also the first time ever that the epic 12 min long "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" is available as a 45 RPM release. Trust me when I tell you, IT SOUNDS AMAZING because it was remastered by John Golden (Nirvana, Melvins, Sonic Youth). This 12" is limited to 500 copies and will probably sell out fast! We think Casiokids are awesome! Nö Music seems to agree because they posted a GREAT review of the band's upcoming album, Topp stemning på lokal bar, giving it a 9/10 rating! They describe the album as being "no less cohesive for not being the result of one session push, and if you have heard the bulk of the material before, well, it’s largely so good that there can be no real excuse for not listening to it quite a lot more."

We're VERY VERY proud to announce that Norway's Casiokids have signed with Polyvinyl! We'll be putting out their upcoming compilation Topp stemning på lokal bar in North America on June 8th. It's the first Norwegian-language pop music ever to be released in the U.S!
Hailing from the same Bergen scene that made up Datarock and Annie, Casiokids were named after their trademark use of beatup, old analog Casios. Their intention? To make electronic music more visual with their theatric live show, which incorporates a blend of shadow puppets, video projections and animal costumes. Whether it's playing a 12-date tour for Norwegian kindergarteners, or their current tour with Hot Chip, Casiokids are sure to leave whatever age group they come across pleased.
The songs on Topp stemning på lokal bar were previously distributed in Europe via Moshi Moshi, both as part of the label’s renowned Singles Club and as a series of double A-sided 7"s. For this debut US release, all eight tracks have been re-mastered and are accompanied by a bonus disc of new material (including six remixes and two covers). Topp stemning på lokal bar will be available on CD/2xLP + MP3. The CD includes a bonus remixes disc and the 180-gram LP includes a bonus 12". To pre-order your copy, follow the link below. Hide More

We are very proud to announce that Gothenburg, Sweden's Love Is All has officially signed with Polyvinyl Record Co. As announced today by Pitchfork, their upcoming full-length Two Thousand and Ten Injuries will be released world-wide on CD/LP March 23rd.
After releasing two critically acclaimed full lengths (Nine Times That Same Song, A Hundred Things Keep Me Up at Night) and several EPs, Love Is All found themselves without a label. For the first time, no one expected them to do anything. When it came time to record a new album, the band decided to play only when they felt like it, with no pressure from an outside source.
The result is Two Thousand and Ten Injuries - an eclectic collection of pop gems, anchored by New Wave and punk rock rhythms that don't ever let up. Accompanied by soundman and co-producer Wyatt Cusick (ex-member of The Aislers Set and Trackstar), Love is All recorded the album using only an old 24-track analog tape machine.
Two Thousand and Ten Injuries will be available on CD and limited edition deluxe black or white 180-gram vinyl (white LPs available exclusively through Polyvinyl). All pre-orders also come with sticker and button. Rewolf is available on CD and purple & white vinyl and comes with a 16 song Polyvinyl sampler. And of course, the LPs come with a digital download code of all songs in MP3 format. Click the link below to purchase Rewolf.

After releasing Sparklace in 2008, the very talented Cale Parks (Aloha, White Williams) is already back with a new EP titled To Swift Mars. With influences ranging from the overlapping arpeggios of Philip Glass to the post-prog pop of Peter Gabriel, To Swift Mars has all the right ingredients for a superb, hard-to-put-down pop record. Recorded at Inner Ear studios by fellow Aloha member T.J. Lipple and mixed by Brian Jacobs of Apes and Androids, Parks' latest batch of songs breaks the usual assumption of what a percussionist's solo project might sound like.
Parks will embark on a nation-wide tour this summer opening up for Passion Pit and Harlem Shakes. Check out the dates below.

Asobi Seksu's new record Hush has officially been released today! If you haven't gotten your copy yet, head on over to the PV store to order one! The record has received great reviews from a wide range of outlets. Check out the quotes and links about Hush below.
"The windswept solace that adorns Asobi Seksu's calmer third release, Hush, the Brooklyn duo's Polyvinyl debut, is a supple deviation from the reverbed guitar squalls of the outfit's self-titled first bow and 2006's Citrus." - Filter Magazine
""Sing Tomorrow's Praise" and "Me & Mary" evoke iciness over icing, with more expansive cool than insidious sweetness." -SPIN
"Hush has plenty of slinky pop moments couched in an ethereal shroud of keys and guitars." - The Tripwire.
Asobi Seksu was featured in the latest issue of Filter Magazine. If you haven't gotten a chance to check out the magazine, you should! These guys put out one of the best music magazines on news stands today. Click the links below to subscribe to Filter and to check out the article.

Digital downloading has
brought about an unfortunate situation. From the consumer standpoint, with your
purchase, you only receive at best a thumbnail sized image of the album. From
the retail standpoint, sales are lost to a faceless server in the middle of
nowhere.
The release of Skeletal Lamping is a paradigm shift.
The goal is to expand the perception of music packaging beyond traditional
flat, square artwork and to bring consumers back to record stores to get it.
The album exists in seven different packaging formats: CD, LP, T-shirt, tote
bag, button set, paper lantern, and wall decal set. Each item in the Skeletal
Lamping Collection includes both the digital album and its unique packaging of
the album art.
Pre-orders for Skeletal Lamping and the Collection will be available around Sept 1.

Ok, so the new Joan of Arc Boo Human is now in stores. The songs are amazing and the lineup is spectacular and huge!
Tim, Mike, Sam, Bobby, Todd Mattei, Ben Vida and Paul Koob all return from the last tours and records. But for Boo they've also added Leroy Bach (5Style, Wilco, Iron and Wine, Beth Orton), Emmet Kelley (Cairo Gang, Bonnie Prince Billy, Beth Orton), Josh Abrams (Town and Country, Prefuse 73), Liz (Town and Country, Zoo Wheel) and the entire trio of Pillars and Tongues.
We know that sounds bananas, its a 14 person band, but the album is what legends are made of. Strings - horns - Pink Floyd The Wall by Captain Beefheart and all the songs are simple, dark, and angry. JoA fans -- you will not be disappointed.
Since Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin's critically acclaimed debut, Broom, the band has shared the stage with of Montreal and Mute Math, traveled to Russia, and created what is sure to be one of 2008's most memorable albums -- Pershing.
For a limited time all online orders receive a free download EP, sticker, poster, and button.
Champaign, IL based Headlights release their sophomore album Some Racing, Some Stopping on February 19th, 2008. Based around Tristan Wraight's acoustic guitar and Erin Fein's keyboards, the songs purposefully lack much of the spacey atmospherics that define the band's earlier work. Instead the album is steeped in a classic pop sensibility, reminiscent of the '60s, Brill Building song craft, and Phil Spector production.
Ida return with their 7th album and simply put, it's the most stunning recording in the band's nearly 15-year history. Entering Levon Helm's (of The Band) mountain studio following 2005's Heart Like a River, the band recorded for nearly two years.
The long-awaited third Picastro album is out now in stores. Whore Luck features contributions by Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu, Owen Pallett of Final Fantasy, and Dwayne Sodahberk (Tigerbeat6). What stands out most are the varied and ambitious arrangements that compliment lead vocalist Liz Hysen's songwriting.
