You can pick one up at your favorite local record shop, or directly through our E-store on CD, LP (purple vinyl), cassette (purple tape), and digital formats. The album is also available on iTunes / Amazon MP3 / Spotify / Rdio.
If you're unfamiliar with the album, have a listen to the opening track "dark corners" below.
Antenna to the Afterworld is the 4th full-length release from Sonny & The Sunsets, and what a wonderul album it is! Aliens, space freaks, cyborgs, homeless people, psychics...this album has just about everything you could imagine.
After the unfortunate murder of a close friend of the band, chief songwriter, Sonny Smith, started thinking a lot about death and the afterworld. Shortly after that, Smith paid a visit to a psychic/medium who brought him into contact with another friend who had died. These experiences inspired what was to become Antenna to the Afterworld, both sonically and lyrically.
Allmusic describes it best:
"Antenna to the Afterworld turns out to be the best kind of pop album: it sounds great and it's full of catchy songs, but it has just enough deeper meaning and emotional depth to keep it from blowing away in a light breeze." (Tim Sendra)

Exciting news on the Joan of Arc horizon! The band has been hard at work on an exciting new collaboration with Chicago based company Every house has a door, and details of the project have just been announced today. Joan of Arc will be releasing a new album, Testimonium Songs, July 30th on limited edition CD, hand-numbered LP (500 magenta, 500 black), cassette, and digital formats. The album is available for pre-order now RIGHT HERE.
Testimonium Songs collects the song cycle composed by Joan of Arc (Tim Kinsella, Bobby Burg, and Theo Katsaounis) to be performed live in Testimonium, a work of performance by well-respected experimental theater ensemble Every house has a door. Testimonium responds — both in substance and in style — to Charles Reznikoff’s monumental work Testimony, a translation into poetry of courtroom transcripts of witness and victim testimonies in criminal cases and cases of workplace negligence, in the US, spanning the years 1885 to 1915. Performances of Testimonium incorporate modern dance, theater, and original songs written and played by Joan of Arc.
In a departure for the band, these highly structured compositions, developed over a two-year rehearsal period, emulate Reznikoff’s poetics by shaping themselves according to a mosaic method – rotating a fixed set of musical units in warping permutations. Check out the opening track "Amelia" above.
The lyrics re-invent the strategies of Objectivist poetry, by turns surreal, ordinary, testimonial, and explosive, releasing the undercurrent of emotion in the poems while (almost) never quoting them directly.
Beyond collecting the Testimonium Songs, the record has a life of its own, with the contributions of stellar musicians David Grubbs, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Michael Zerang, and Jim Baker, additional vocals by Melina Ausikaitis, and musical material not included in the performance. The album does not feature recent Joan of Arc contributor/member, Victor Villarreal, as he and Kinsella are currently working towards the completion of a new Owls album.
To showcase Testimonium in a live setting, Chicago Cultural Center presents, in association with Every house has a door, the world premier performances of Testimonium, October 17 – 20, 2013 at The Storefront Theater, Chicago. Watch a preview of the Testimonium performance above. Hide More

"For over a decade now, Fred Thomas has mined the aesthetic of 1960s girl groups and Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, but each new release the band puts out feels fresh rather than formulaic." Pitchfork
"..although it’s been four years since SLGTM’s last release, the band didn’t spend all that time lamenting each and every creative decision. Instead, they allowed the twelve tracks to take shape spontaneously." Paste MagazineHide More

We're incredibly excited to announce that the new Sonny & The Sunsets album, Antenna to the Afterworld, will be released June 11th! Available on CD, LP (purple vinyl), and cassette, the album is a whole new sound for the Sunsets...and it's amazing. Pre-orders are up RIGHT HERE.
The opening track, "Dark Corners," made its debut on Pitchfork earlier today here. Take a listen below:
The murder of a close friend of the band led Sonny Smith to think a lot about death and life after death. Shortly after, a visit to a psychic/medium brought Smith into contact with another friend who had died. This encounter with the afterworld inspired many of the lyrics on Antenna to the Afterworld. And what a strangely entertaining odyssey it turned out to be.
"I come from the planet of dogs / ... / And I walk on your streets / ... / and I can't wait to find / My little place in your weird world," Smith sings on opening track "Dark Corners," as the song's use of synthesizers lends the perfect sonic counterpart to the science fiction narrative.
