Now, we’ve all heard the ballyhoo about digital cutting into CD sales, the death of the CD, and all that. That got us to thinking, “Why can’t the two co-exist together?” After all, CDs still have superior sound to most things digital. There’s also the archival factor for CDs: If your hard drive crashes, there is still the physical backup. And, if you get tired of the CD or want to upgrade to vinyl there’s also the secondary market of taking it to your local record store and selling it to them used. When was the last time you tried to sell a used download? (Yeah, it didn’t work for us either.)
February being the month of love, we’ve done our best to bring these two seemingly competing formats together for Polyvinyl’s inaugural Buy One, Get One Free Supersale. Every Polyvinyl CD from 1996 – 2008 is taking part in the sale PLUS you get an instant MP3 download of each album you buy at checkout. Order your CDs now, get the MP3s instantly, and still receive a delectable flavor of Airhead along with your albums in the mail.

The day is here! We're very pleased to announce the release of Casiokids' new compilation, Topp stemning på lokal bar, available now on 2xCD / 2xLP / MP3.
If there's one release to take note of this year, it's Topp stemning på lokal bar. Norway's Casiokids (of Montreal tourmates and now labelmates) take the term "catchy" and multiply it by 1,000. Topp stemning på lokal bar is packed with flawless pop gems, sung in their native language of Norwegian. The band has already been getting attention far and wide from the likes of Flaunt, Stereogum, Self-Titled,FILTER, WIRED, and more. XLR8R also just premiered diskJokke's remix of "En Vill Hest" on their First Listen section. You can also stream the entire album over at AOL SPINNER right now. And on top of that, Pitchfork debuted the band's awesome video for "Finn Bikkjen!" directed by Greg Taylor. Whew...that's a lot of awesome stuff.
The 2xCD includes free sticker, button, and bonus remix CD of 8 orginal tracks. The 2xLP (purple 180 gram vinyl limited to 1,000) also comes with a free sticker, button, and bonus remix 12". And of course, they always come with our digital download code! Click the links below to order your copy of Topp stemning på lokal bar and to check out the articles. Hide More
Remember what it was like to turn 16? No one could tell you what to do. You were a force to be reckoned with - you were filled with the undeniable feeling that you could take on anything and win.
Having formed in 1994, Deerhoof has now reached that fateful age and they're stepping out to challenge the world with their brand new release, Deerhoof vs. Evil, which will be released January 25, 2011 on Polyvinyl Records.
As reported on Pitchfork today, Deerhoof vs. Evil documents the musical "coming of age" for the band and features songs that combine intricate rhythms and abrupt melodies that are instantly engaging. Right from "Qui Dorm, Només Somia" (sung in Catalan), it's evident that Deerhoof aren't afraid to take chances. Recorded, mixed, and mastered in practices spaces and basements with no engineers or outside input, Deerhoof have created a blissfully exuberant album while leaving behind all notions of what a "Deerhoof record sounds like." Download the first single, "The Merry Barracks" for free HERE.
Deerhoof vs. Evil is now available for pre-order over in our online store. The album is available on CD, LP + MP3, and T-shirt + MP3. The LPs come on either black or pink 180 gram vinyl with a gatefold jacket (pink vinyl limited to 2000 copies). and of course they come with a download code. You can also get the album as a T-shirt + MP3 download card! Click the link below to check out the different ways to pre-order. Hide More

Thursday's are good days for AWESOME release announcements right? I'd say so, because we're hitting you with something new from Japandroids - No Singles, out May 11th.
Before their critically acclaimed full-length Post-Nothing, Japandroids released two 5-song EPs (All Lies and Lullaby Death Jams) on good ole CD-Rs. The EPs were limited to 500 copies and quickly sold out. No Singles compiles these two EPs into one album.
With beautiful packaging designed by the band along with a 11" x 11" 32-page booklet featuring rare photos and fliers detailing the band's early history, No Singles illustrates how Japandroids would go on to land spots on over 30 year-end lists for 2009.
No Singles was mastered by John Golden (The Melvins, Nirvana) and will be available on CD+MP3 and LP+MP3 (deluxe double gatefold,180-gram black or white). All orders will include an instant digital download code on ship date, 4/30, so you can have the music while you wait for your record to arrive! Follow the links below to pre-order your copy and to see what Pitchfork and Exclaim have to say about the release announcement. Hide More
Ready for some new Japandroids songs? Sure you are! 2009 was a busy year for Japandroids. Their nonstop touring schedule didn't leave much time for recording another full-length, so Brian and Dave devised a 5-part 7" series as a way to give back to all of you!
As reported by Pitchfork earlier today, each 7" will feature a previously unreleased track written during the Post-Nothing sessions along with a cover. The first installment, Art Czars, features the title track along with a Big Black cover of "Racer X", a live favorite. Recorded during a brief break between tours and mastered by John Golden, Art Czars will be released on April 13th on clear vinyl (limited edition of 2000) along with a digital download code. Follow the link below to pre-order your copy.
On top of Pitchfork's post about the single series, other outlets have posted about it including Exclaim, SPIN, Village Voice, Under The Radar, and more. Check them all out by clicking the links below. Hide More
Alright my friends, the day has arrived! Japandroids' latest 7" single Art Czars is out now on clear vinyl, equipped with digital download code! To celebrate the release, SPIN is exclusively streaming the B-side "Racer X," right now on their website! Now's your chance to go get a preview.
The single has done so well, that we're already sold out of them through mailorder! But don't worry, you can still buy the MP3s from our digital store or by catching the band at an upcoming show. They've still got a few left! Follow the links below to purchase Art Czars and to check out the feature on SPIN.
Art Czars is the first of a 5 part series that will be released throughout 2010. Since Japandroids tour so much, they haven't had a chance to get into the studio to record a follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Post-Nothing, so they're releasing these singles as a way to give back to all of you! Each single will have an original song taken from the Post-Nothing sessions along with a cover. The first single contains the title track on the A-side along with a cover of Big Black's "Racer X" on the B-side." Hide More
Look out! Japandroids are at it again with their new 7" titled Younger Us. Younger Us is the 2nd installment in the 5-part 7" series being released throughout 2010 and features the title track on the A-side along with a cover of X's "Sex and Dying in High Society" on the B-side.

2 down, 3 more to go! Japandroids' Younger Us 7" is out now on clear vinyl and can be purchased through our online store or at your favorite local record shop.
Younger Us is the 2nd installment of the 5-part 7" series devised by the band as a way to give something back to fans. Since the band has been touring for so long, they haven't had a chance to record a follow up to 2009's critically acclaimed Post-Nothing. These five 7"s each have a track from the Post-Nothing sessions along with a cover on the B-side. Younger Us (limited to 2500 copies) features the title track on the A-side along with a cover of X's "Sex and Dying in High Society" on the B-side.

In 2003, Polyvinyl released All Your Summer Songs by a band called Saturday Looks Good To Me. Remember that one? Led by multi-instrumentalist Fred Thomas (City Center, Flashpaper, Swimsuit, Lovesick) along with Betty Marie Barnes on vocals, SLGTM went on to tour, record and release records extensively until about 2008 before going on an unofficial hiatus.
While Fred went on to record and tour with City Center, Swimsuit and various other projects, Betty went to school in Stockholm, Sweden. Last summer while Betty was home for a week, the two recorded the basic vocal tracks of what was to become a brand new project called Mighty Clouds. Over the next 6 months, Fred fleshed out the arrangements and recorded the rest of the instruments to finish the album.
Mighty Clouds, the band's self-titled debut, is finally finished and available on 180 gram "cloud colored" vinyl +MP3 through Fred's label, LIFELIKE. Since we're so excited about the release, we got a few copies for our online store and paired it with an amazing package deal. The four albums became four long movements which fill the totality of each side of the 2xLP. Each side -- A, B, C, and D -- contains one 20 minute track. Available on limited, hand-numbered black or white vinyl with gatefold jacket. (Black vinyl limited to 350 copies, white limited to 150.) Also comes with a download code.
The four distinct ensembles woven into Oh Brother are:
- FRIEND / ENEMY (featuring Tim Kinsella, Zach Hill [Hella], Nate Kinsella [Make Believe], Sam Zurick [Cap'n Jazz, Make Believe] and others) - TK / FR DUO (Tim Kinsella w/ jazz drummer Frank Rosaly) - LIKINS (Tim Kinsella w/ Rob Lowe) - MINERAL TOTEM (Tim Kinsella, Jeff Bradbury, Robert Ryan, and Doug Rosenburg)

What better way to kick off 2011 than with a brand new album from STRFKR? Reptilians, the band's 2nd full-length and 1st for Polyvinyl set to be released March 8th, is now available for pre-order. Lyrically, Reptilians focuses primarily on death and the end of the world. Amazingly, the album sounds not the least bit depressing. Full of explosive drums, vibrant crescendos, and layered synth melodies, Reptilians is surely STRFKR's most well-rounded and full-sounding album to date.
of Montreal's song "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" off 2007's Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?, is a fan favorite and was recently featured in Spike Jonze's amazing new short film, I'M HERE. To celebrate, we thought we'd hit you all with a super special release, exclusive to the Polyvinyl online store.
As of today, you can pre-order your copy of The Past Is A Grotesque Animal as a 45 RPM 12" on light blue 180-gram vinyl! The A-side features the original version of "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" while the B-side features the new I'M HERE version which was re-envisioned by Kevin Barnes, Nick Zinner of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and members of the Moonrats.
The beautiful cover is a hand screen printed design by Nina Barnes/Geminitactics. This is also the first time ever that the epic 12 min long "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" is available as a 45 RPM release. Trust me when I tell you, IT SOUNDS AMAZING because it was remastered by John Golden (Nirvana, Melvins, Sonic Youth). This 12" is limited to 500 copies and will probably sell out fast!
