Earlier this year, of Montreal mastermind Kevin Barnes went on a writing retreat to San Francisco, CA, where he spent 2 weeks exploring the city's various neighborhoods while writing the new of Montreal album, lousy with sylvianbriar. Today, the new album is available for pre-order on CD, LP (180-gram clear sea-grlass green vinyl), and cassette RIGHT HERE.
The first single, "fugitive air," debuted on Pitchfork today. Check it out HERE, or stream it below.
lousy with sylvianbriar is a dramatic shift in style compared to the band's last full-length release, Paralytic Stalks. This new album finds Barnes revisiting his roots, connecting with 60's / 70's bands like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Big Star and other classics.
Recorded at Barnes' home studio on a 24-track analog tape machine, lousy with sylvianbriar is an album to be explored, to be lived with, to be listened to in happiness and in darkness, to be dissolved into. To be played very loudly at parties and with eyes closed, in headphones, alone. It should become dog-eared and dirty with use and it should lessen the blow of our enemies, in all their forms.

"A sense of excited satisfaction runs through L'Ami du Peuple, finding a still curious and motivated Kinsella a little bit older, but learning new things all the time and coming up with some of his best songs yet." - AllMusicHide More

I've been anticipating this day for while now...the day when Pillar Point's new track "Dreamin'" would be streamin' online (see what I did there?). Well, that day is TODAY! Head on over to SPIN where you can listen to "Dreamin'," which is the B-side to the band's upcoming Diamond Mine 7" (out digitally July 9th).
From theatrical live performances to eye-popping album artwork, of Montreal has always been as much about what you see as what you hear.
And now, the band's visual and musical dimensions are even more closely linked on this beautiful picture disc edition of their beloved 2005 album, The Sunlandic Twins.
The record itself serves as the showcase for David Barnes' iconic imagery and Kevin Barnes' superlative songwriting. And it has never looked or sounded better.
Featuring of Montreal favorites such as "Wraith Pinned to the Mist," "Oslo in the Summertime," "So Begins Our Alabee," and many more, this landmark album will only be available on picture disc via this one-time, limited edition pressing of 535 numbered copies.
Official release date for the picture disc is 8/9, but pre-orders are up RIGHT HERE. Follow the link to check out more photos of the picture disc and to revist this classic album.

Letterman calls the album "Celebrity Rock"...but the dude is around celebrites all day...so maybe he just got a bit confused. Either way, Brian and Dave were awesome last night. Watch the performance above!

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin have just finished recording another masterpiece. Their new album will be coming out later this year, but until then you can watch a preview video featuring one of the new songs. You will like it, I promise.

The day is finally here! The new Sonny & The Sunsets album, Antenna to the Afterworld, is out today! You can pick one up at your favorite local record shop, or directly through our E-store on CD, LP (purple vinyl), cassette (purple tape), and digital formats. The album is also available on iTunes / Amazon MP3 / Spotify / Rdio.
If you're unfamiliar with the album, have a listen to the opening track "dark corners" below.
Antenna to the Afterworld is the 4th full-length release from Sonny & The Sunsets, and what a wonderul album it is! Aliens, space freaks, cyborgs, homeless people, psychics...this album has just about everything you could imagine.
After the unfortunate murder of a close friend of the band, chief songwriter, Sonny Smith, started thinking a lot about death and the afterworld. Shortly after that, Smith paid a visit to a psychic/medium who brought him into contact with another friend who had died. These experiences inspired what was to become Antenna to the Afterworld, both sonically and lyrically.
Allmusic describes it best:
"Antenna to the Afterworld turns out to be the best kind of pop album: it sounds great and it's full of catchy songs, but it has just enough deeper meaning and emotional depth to keep it from blowing away in a light breeze." (Tim Sendra)

The new Deerhoof video for "Breakup Songs" just made its debut on Stereogum! The video was directed by Pieter Dirkx and features a plague docotor who "visits a town that is afflicted with something that causes an array of rainbow-colored vomit." Too true! Watch it above.
We're thrilled to announce that Seattle's Pillar Point have officially joined the Polyvinyl family! Their debut Diamond Mine 7" will be released later this year, but in the meantime, take a listen to the title track above. More to come soon!
