Originally released in 2002, Aldhils Arboretum was a departure for of Montreal.
Rather than building songs around concepts, the band chose to concentrate
specifically on the development and writing of each song. Such an effort
results in one of of Montreal's most focused and polished
works.

"Intended as an "album of singles" in favor of diminishing their normal proclivities toward conceptual grandiosity and musical adventurousness, Aldhils Arboretum marks a peculiar change of pace for Elephant 6's most prolific popsters." All Music Guide
|
|
"The tracks are blanketed by lead singer Kevin Barnes' endearing, occasionally infantile, melodies and colorful, mosaic-like instrumental arrangements." Stylus

|
"[Aldhils Arboretum is] a healthy dose of shag-a-delic tunes, certain to induce...dancing..." Rockpile
