After self-releasing several projects throughout the 2010s, Plato III (Ryan Silva) made his 2022 Polyvinyl debut with The Devil Has Texas, a vivid exploration of his trailer park upbringing in West Texas that infuses personal narratives with sharp insights on race, class, and identity

Today, he shares the sun-drenched music video for his latest single "Good Problems," offering a peek into where he's been the last few years and celebrating how far he's come. Directed by acclaimed photographer Lenne Chai, we see Ryan donned in a fur robe dancing his way through a Kodachrome daydream, all while basking in life’s blessings. As he lounges by the pool soaking up rays, the song’s  chorus floats upon a driving disco beat, and sports an SPF that deflects all negativity – watch below.

The song also represents a sonic shift in Plato’s sound. Inspired by the "grown folks music" of artists like Earth, Wind and Fire, Maze, and the Isley Brothers, “Good Problems” throbs with the mature, step-ready sounds of vintage soul and post-disco, but roils with the lacerating emotional insight of hip-hop. Speaking to the deeper influence behind the track, Ryan shared the following:

"'Good Problems' is a common saying where I’m from about recognizing the blessings in the challenges you are facing. Whether that’s relationship struggles or being the member of the family relied on for support, it’s a blessing to be loved or to be in a position to help. Especially compared to the problems you are used to facing. Those are the bad problems. Embracing life’s responsibilities felt like grown folks music so this one was inspired by the 70s disco of tracks like CHIC’s “Good Times”, that originally laid the foundation for hip-hop."  – Plato III
