FAN was never supposed to exist. Following the passing of his father, Meric Long inherited two synthesizers and began drafting electronic soundscapes for no real purpose at all other than the joy of seeing what he could create. Inspired by childhood influences like Nintendo, Devo, and Brian Eno, Meric stepped outside his indie rock background with The Dodos to develop something entirely new. These intimate solo sessions are what brought Barton's Den to life.

Meric recently chatted with The Grey Estates about the story behind the album and his process for recording.

Billboard called Long "an artist brimming with the passion of unrestricted creative expression."

Brooklyn Vegan seconded, "He sounds like a natural, and his knack for writing off-kilter yet super catchy indie pop is in just as fine a form as it is on The Dodos’ albums.”
