Mike Kinsella (American Football, Cap'n Jazz, LIES) is back with the next chapter to his solo project, Owen, detailing his new album, The Falls of Sioux - out April 26. Contributors include co-producers Sean Carey (Bon Iver) and Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Low, Waxahatchee), backing vocals from KC Dalager (Now, Now), string arrangements composed by Russell Durham (Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird), synths played by Corey Bracken (from American Football’s touring band), and a few other friends scattered about on upright bass, pedal steel, and various auxiliary touches.

With the album announcement comes the record's dizzying first single/music video “Beaucoup” (directed by Weird Life Films) and a full run of headline dates that will take him around the US and Europe this Spring/Summer. On “Beaucoup”, acoustic guitar strums are slowly washed up against by a bedding of shoegaze texture, a deep synth bass sequence, and waves of noisy electronics. Mike explains:

"I’m not sure if 'Beaucoup' is a lusty Love Song or a lovely Lust Song. Everyone at Weird Life did a great job capturing the seedy side of it, as well as the shimmery / flirty side, visually hitting (and bending) the same note between the notes for the music video."

Mike's ability to seamlessly stitch jagged emotional currents into crushingly beautiful songs has remained at the forefront of his art. This contrast has become more distinct as Owen expanded from unassuming acoustic beginnings into more ornate production, reaching new levels of complexity and clarity by the release of The Avalanche (2020). The Falls of Sioux levels up even further. As much as these nine songs represent a type of reinvention, they also feel like the natural next step - both artistically and personally. Perforating an established sound to explore unlikely musical ideas, these songs document a time of moving through life-altering turmoil into brighter days. Heavy themes are turned over with a gentle hand as Mike inhabits the deeper perspectives that come with hard-earned life experience.
