We’re over the moon and incredibly proud to welcome Los Angeles ambient rock band Dummy to the PV family.
Dummy is: Alex Ewell (drums, synths), Emma Maatman (vocals, synths, organ), Nathan O'Dell (vocals, guitar, organ), Joe Trainor (guitar, synths), and Lance Umble (bass).
Known for their sweltering and entrancing live shows, the band has toured extensively in support of their most recent album, Free Energy, aptly described by Pitchfork as “the sound of a band turning all its potential energy into music that’s dazzlingly kinetic and powerful."
As our first shared endeavor, Dummy and Polyvinyl are reissuing the band's first two albums, originally released through Trouble In Mind Records—Mandatory Enjoyment (2021) and Free Energy (2024)— on vinyl, CD, and cassette. Both releases are available to pre-order now and will hit stores on July 31st.

And we can't wait to share more about their Polyvinyl debut later this year...
Expressing mutual excitement, Matt Lunsford, Polyvinyl co-founder alongside Darcie Lunsford, shared the following:
“We'd been longtime Dummy fans from afar here at Polyvinyl. So we were delighted when Fred Thomas [Idle Ray, Saturday Looks Good To Me] -- our trusted friend, artist and collaborator for over 20 years -- sent a note saying the band was looking for a home for new music and encouraged us to work together. We connected with Dummy and hit it off immediately. Today, we are so excited to announce that Polyvinyl and Dummy have joined forces! We can't wait to share what's next.”
To celebrate today’s announcement, the band is also sharing a newly filmed recording of their swirling and immersive Free Energy single, “Unshaped Road”—performed live and in the round at LA’s Lodge Room venue of the historic Highland Park Masonic Temple in December 2025.
