Today, Being Dead – the beloved Austin trio of co-lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalists Falcon Bitch, Cody Dosier, and bassist Nicole Roman-Johnston – join the PV family and release the double single, “Man or Myth / Aquarium,” alongside music videos for both tracks.

Of their signing, the band comments, “We don’t mean to put too much pressure on Polyvinyl, but if we’re not inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame within the next two years, we’re throwing in the towel. That said, we have full confidence that together, we will take over the world.”

"Man or Myth" is the band's homage to the freestyle-canoeing legend, Marc Ornstein, who graciously, though initially perplexed, allowed the band to use footage of him for the song’s music video. Diving further into themes of aquatic majesty, as seen in the music video for “Aquarium,” Being Dead shares that the song “explores the taboo nature of falling in love in the workplace, which is especially scandalous if the workplace is an aquarium and your coworker is a dolphin.”

Today's singles are the first new music from Being Dead since the release of their excellent 2024 sophomore album EELS. They mark a triumphant new chapter for Being Dead — with music as strange as it is immediate, and as unpredictable as it is impossible to shake. The band are reunited with John Congleton (Death Cab for Cutie, St. Vincent, Alvvays, Angel Olsen) who also produced EELS, one of 2024’s best albums. EELS was celebrated by critics and fans alike, appearing on several year-end lists and leading to sold out shows across North America and Europe.

Being Dead’s records are mosaics, technicolor incantations, each song its own self-contained little universe. Something about their music suggests it’s a dispatch from both the future and the past – vocal harmonies that sound like they’re reverberating in a medieval church to surfy guitar lines, weirdo-punky cacophonies erupting into chaos.
